I have a D rebel XT and would like to make an DC adaptor using an old NB-2LH battery case with the batteries stripped out) but don't know what the 3rd T contacts is for, it seems to be a negative connection by my volt meter. I already have a Canon power supply with the proper voltage and terminal which has the proper pin out + center contact and outer - contact could the T bat. contact be for cutting out the charger when the battery is fully charged or something to do with the meter readings in the camera when the battery is low? any info much appreciated.

Got a picture of the contacts?
It could be very similar to the Canon DC Coupler DR-400 Pinout

Picture of Charger and Battery terminals the out side ones are the + & - and the T terminals the centre one. I did a little experiment by tapping over the centre terminal of the battery and put it in the charger it didn't recognize the battery and the charge light didn't come on, so I touch it out of the charger put it in the camera and the camera worked just as usual with the tape on the centre contact so it would seem the camera only uses the + & - contacts of the battery, unless it comes into play when the battery begins to get low and shows in the lcd window.

I think you'll be ok just using the + and - on the camera. The camera doesn't use the third pin.

The third pin is connected to a temperature sensor inside the battery. The charger "senses" the temperature and adjusts the charging current to make it as fast as possible without the risk of damaging the battery chemicals. It has no purpose on the camera.
