Canon EOS Rebel 2000

2000/2/17

On Sunday, I helped a friend of mine, Eve, shot a test roll of film in her brand new Canon Rebel 2000 kit. I was extremely impressed with it. It is smaller and lighter than my Rebel G. And the Rebel 2000 has many new features. If you know how I feel about my Rebel G, then you must know how much more I like the Rebel 2000.

The Rebel 2000 has seven auto-focus points compared to the three on Rebel G. It also has depth-of-field preview, which is lacking on the Rebel G. The film transport speed and the screen black-out speed is also a little bit faster than the Rebel G; giving you more chances to get an action shot. The silver finish also makes it a little more attractive than the dull black plastic of the Rebel G.

What really makes me drool about the Rebel 2000 is the vertical shutter release if you get the battery pack (BP-200) to go with it. I take a lot of vertical pictures and when I have to twist my arms around just to get a vertical shot, I often miss the shot altogether. Ever since I started using the vertical shutter release, I found that I take far more vertical shots than horizontal shots. And I found that my shots come back sharper and composed better.
