Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4D is an ultra sharp and portable lens that is capable to produce excellent results when used in daylight. It has focal length of 50mm i.e. 75mm of APS-C 35mm standard, maximum aperture of F1.4 and minimum aperture of F16. Formats supported by lens are FX, DX, 35mm film and FX in DX Crop mode. It works well with both FX and DX formats and is compatible with wide range of Nikon cameras.
Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm has 7 lens elements in six groups that follow traditional multicoated design by only using spherical surfaces. This design helps in producing zero distortion pictures of high contrast, accurate color rendition and excellent resolution, irrespective of any aperture. There are 7 blades in its diaphragm down up to F16. This lens is ideal for any kind of portrait shooting, sunlight shooting and shooting on move.
Lens has fast Auto focus whose one turn covers focuses from infinity to six and is driven by AF motor of type “Screw-drive” away from camera body. Due to use of this type of AF motor, lens may not be compatible with entry level D cameras like D40. Be it any light condition, Lens responds extremely well. Nikon AF 50mm uses traditionally designed aperture ring, accepts filter size of 52mm and employs focus method of Unit.
Nikon AF NIKKOR is 230g in weight, 1.7 inches in length, 2.5 inches in diameter and has Lens mount of Nikon F. Lens body is mostly of plastic exteriors and metal interiors. Its focus ring is also of plastic but embedded in ribbed rubber. It has perfect sharpness at any aperture and outputs zero lateral color fringes when used with D3. Lens supports maximum format size of 35mm at full frame, diagonal angle of viewing of 47 degrees, maximum magnification of 0.15x and close focus distance of 0.45 meters.
Lens is also good for low light conditions as it has capability to gather light. Its fast f/stop feature makes the operation easy. Lens has no image stabilization but provides distance information. It has super integrated coating and is supplied with accessories like 52mm front lens cap and rear cap. Some vendors may also provide folding rubber HR-2 lens hood for protection. Available at price of about $300, Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f 1.4 D lens is value for money due to its fast speed, good sharpness and quality outputs, especially in day light conditions.
