Back in the film days, I always carried two cameras with me. A large single-lens relfex (SLR) camera and an ultra small point-and-shoot (P&S) camera. I used the SLR camera when I'm out on a photo shoot, where I do some serious photography work. But I carry the P&S, when I'm out doing other things, in order to avoid missing opportunities.
Back in the day, my P&S weapon of choice was the Canon Elph Jr. It was the smallest film camera that I could find and still fit in my pocket. It had a ultra sharp prime lens that was a real plus. Only issues was the lack of zoom lens; some opportunity lost.
When I'm in the gorcery story, I have the Elph Jr. While pumping gas, the Elph Jr. is ready to go. In line at DMV, Elph Jr. is with me.
Nowadays, the advanced camera technology in SmartPhones has improved to match digital camera quality. Now I carry an unlocked Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus everywhere I go. It has a fixed focal length lens, autofocus capability, and is small enough to carry in my pocket. It's pretty similar to the Canon Elph Jr., but, in fact, has many other features.
In older generation camera phones, the camera is slow in responsive, the resolution quite low, the lens is fixed focus, the shutter lag is too long, and photo transfer is difficult. Not anymore. The Google Samsung Galaxy Nexus has solved all these problem. And I no longer feel naked with out a camera when all I have is this phone. So I am happy to finally have a replacement for my tiny P&S camera.
