Verizon XV6700 PDA Camera Phone

That was the best review of the camera side of this phone. I just got a PPC-6700 and have taken some pictures using "Superfine" and 2MP mode. I would like to know opinions of the difference in quality between the 1.3 MP and 2MP, and between the superfine and fine and etc. What I'm getting at is, if it takes "so so" pictures anyway am I better off just leaving it in 1.3 MP in something like fine or standard, or is it worth it to go all the way to superfine and 2 MP?

Great review. I've been using my Sprint PPC-6700 for a year and a half and didn't know about half the features the author discusses. I also learned the PDA/Camera phone can save directly to the SD Card which is great. One problem I have is with the car charger. Sometimes it seems although it is plugged in and the charger is on, the amber light indicating charging, does not come on. The red LED on the charger is lit so it is getting power. Last night, the PDA shut down from lack of battery power while plugged into the car charger and went into an endless reboot cycle until I just unplugged it. When I got home, I put it in the cradle and it rebooted and charged fine.

I have been using this Windows Mobile Touchscreen Phone for years and would like to clarify a couple of points.

First, the XV6700 does have some internal memory, but I would recommend using a Mini-SD card with it. Even if you are using the device for nothing but pictures and videos, the operating system is going to use some of that memory and it doesn't take many pics to fill it up. And the OS gets a little cranky when it runs low on flash memory.

Second, the phone takes Mini-SD cards because at the time it was originally released Micro-SD cards did not even exist. Since the Micro-SD cards came out most phones have adapted to take them, as they are smaller and more convenient. The XV6700 is over 3 years old at this point and Mini-SD cards are getting hard to find.

Third, this is not an ideal camera for most users at this point except for two possibilities; if you can get it inexpensively enough and if you want to be able to edit pictures in the same device that you are taking them in. Since there are some nice free image editing programs out there that can be run on the Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Edition platform, you can crop, filter and perfect your photos, then upload them to the internet using the built-in Wi-Fi with ease.

So, in summary, the age of this phone and the 1.3 MP resolution are somewhat limiting, but for someone who wants an inexpensive camera that can upload pictures directly to the internet with free Wi-Fi, it might still serve a purpose.

Great review.

Oh, and the reason the docking cradle comes with two USB connecting ports is so you can connect it to the computer and to the wall charger at the same time. This is because if the XV6700 (and docking station) are only connected to the computer, it will charge the phone but at a much slower rate. Having both plugged in means the wall charger charges the phone faster (typically in less than 6 hours on standard battery) while still having data access through the computer. Connecting only to the PC will take twice as long or more to charge the phone fully.
