Accessing a digital camera's firmware and memory

Is there any software out there that allows you to access any digital camera's firmware and memory. I just acquired several cheap digital cameras and was wondering if there is any universal way of getting into the camera so that I can download the software that is in it and see what I can do with it.

Thanks

Is there any particular camera you like to know about? I know that the Canon runs on DOS and there was a shell-like utility for you to get into the operating system on a Canon camera. Thought there was a link someone on this web site, but couldn't find it at this moment.

Found it!

"s10sh is a USB/serial userspace driver for the Canon PowerShot digital cameras. Using s10sh you can download, upload and explore the images caputered with your PowerShot camera. The interface is quite similar to DOS's command.com."

Actually I was looking for some generic way of getting into a camera's software. I picked up several of these cheap cameras at a place called Tuesdays Morning for $10 each. They operate as either a digital camera or a PC camera and have only 640x480 resolution. The cameras are made by a company named Mitek, here is a link to their web site that describes the camera: Mitek Technology Inc.

The chip is made by a company named Service and Quality Technology and is labeled SQ905. Their web site is Service & Quality Technology Co., LTD. Unfortunatly they are a Chinese company and I cannot read their web site. I did find a pdf spec sheet in english at this location but it does not really give any technical information.

I was hoping that there might be a way of getting into the camera to see if there is any options that the chipset might have that is not activated yet.

Thanks for the info though

Allen

Im looking for this also, i have a few cheap cameras i wanted to play with. I got a 3 mega pixel quick clix camera and it sucks bad. I figured out that you can view the camera settings if you right click a picture it has takesn and gives some information about the camera settings. I have figured out why it sucks because the ISO speeds and shutter speeds are just all wrong. It wold be cool to be able to change them.

I have a keychain camera that is the same way but it does not give any information about the speeds and stuff.

Anyone have any futher info?

I have an F30 and KNOW that the firmware/software is "crippled" for this model. Am looking fora way to either patch or hack into the firmware/software to unlock the full potential of this fine camera. Any assistance will be most appreciated.

Title: Fuji Finepix F30: Accessing Firmware
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: I have a Fuji Finepix F30 and would like to know how I can access the firmware to enable the other features this camera has, especially Auto ISO selections which are limited to only two. Also, to enable more full manual options, except for maybe for focus, as this is a P&S camera. This camera has . . .
