Remotely fire a digital camera for Hang Gliding

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I looking to remotely fire a digital camera mounted on my hang glider wing. I believe hard wire would be better than wireless. My Fuji had a lot going on when I removed the cover. I reviewed How to hardwire the Olympus D-370 and D-380 Digital Cameras
This seemed like something I could accomplish unlike the Fuji. I was looking for a camera with better resolution (Pixels) than the D-380. I have a Canon T50 set up (minus body) with a 17 mm lens, and remote. Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi Jay,

You mentioned a lot of different cameras in your post. Not sure exactly which one you intended to use. Your Canon T50 and its remote seems like a prime candidate, since there would be no work, other than extending the remote.

Take a look at the recent Switch question and its related trackbacks. I believe it will be helpful to you.

Then download the free "Building Triggers" chapter from the Hacking Digital Cameras book.

Finally, come back and ask more questions. We'd be happy to give you some suggestions.

I just did this with an Olympus C740 for use on a motorcycle. Those articles helped me a lot. You just have to be willing to tinker a little.

Hi Chieh,
I have reviewed chapter 1. Thanks for your help. I'm looking to replace my Canon T50 (motor problems from the start). My Fuji 2650 that I took the cover off had no easy access to parallel solder the wires to the trigger switch. Could you recommend a point/shoot digital camera that has easy access to the solder points, the 17 mm lens worked great when I mounted from my wing. (Thanks, Keith ) mentioned Olympus C740 and you refereed to the Sony DSC-P92. I going to review the specs on the above listed cameras and most likely Ebay.

Blue Sky's, Thanks for your help.

I am a huge fan of Olympus. The C740 is a 2.1 MegaPixel. I used it mounted to the front fork at 60 MPH with great clarity. I can only imagine the shots from a hang glider will be awesome.

Just post if you want more info on the Olympus.

Title: Switch question
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: Is there any way to get a 2.5mm bayonette input plug into a point-and-shoot digital camera? It seems only higher-end pro cameras have remote control jacks. I want to operate a $100-200 point-and-shoot camera with a Conceptus bite switch. Looking forward to hearing from you.
