An Unique Piece - Ricoh GXR A12

Ricoh, the well known camera manufacturer released their GXR A12 in November, 2009. This camera is unique in the sense that it is an interchangeable unit camera system where the user can change lenses with the help of the slide-in mount system. The body is made from die cast magnesium which has proved to be quite durable previously and its surface is covered with a corrosion-resistant “pear skin” coating. This ensures that the camera has a durable body, gives a good grip in your hand and makes it easy to use. It comes in a black exterior with all-metal tripod mount which gives the impression of a professional and serious product.

The GXR A12 has a 50mm macro lens with a 12.3 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor which ensures high quality images, low noise and smooth tonal gradations. You can enjoy a focal length of 50-mm and focal distance of 7cm. The 50-mm is a great advantage as you can have wonderful results in both street photography and also in up-close pictures of flowers and nature. This camera lens is wonderful as it corrects various types of aberrations. If you are interested in macro photography, this camera is the right choice as it has a manual focus ring which helps to make precise adjustments even after the autofocus. The camera automatically switches to macro mode when you wish to shoot pictures close up to the subjects, so that you do not have to think about changing modes. The f/2.5-22 aperture is great as it allows poor-light shooting and you can easily create special looks for your pictures.

With a 3.0-inch 920,000-dot VGA LCD you can enjoy high-resolution picture display with angles and wonderful contrast. Maximum resolution offered here is 4288 x 2416. Your screen is protected from damage, scratches and soiling as it has a fluorine coating. Furthermore, the screen has an anti-reflection coat to give perfect visibility even when you are in the outdoors in bright and blinding sunlight.

One important advantage of this camera is that since the body is compact there is no fear of dust or dirt harming it. This camera gives you shutter speeds of 180-1/3200 sec. It starts shooting photographs within 1.5 seconds of start-up and you can get proper focus within 0.5 seconds. It shoots and stores images pretty fast. It takes about 0.5 seconds to store a JPEG image so you can start clicking the next picture even when the earlier image is being stored. The LCD works well and there is no blackout between images. The Ricoh GXR A12 costs around 1019 and is a must have piece for those interested in serious photography.
