We had the same problem. For whatever reason, registering the software and then connecting the camera resolved it.

Hi, I had the same problem and had a heck of a time figuring it out (kid dumped everything but the camera and cable the day after Christmas). It's a built in light level sensor. The camera won't take a picture if there is not enough light. I tested this by trying to snap a picture of my kitchen table from the exact same location with the overhead light off and then again with it on.

My only problem now is that I can't get my pictures OFF of the camera. I downloaded the driver from sakar but don't have any software to interface with the camera. I guess I could go buy another one at Wal Mart, install the software and then return it. It's a hastle but I saw by the display today that it's been done a few times (several of the cameras were resealed and marked down 5 bucks)

I was having the same problems mentioned above. Everyone's hints helped. It is light sensative. The software is fun. I think everything will be ok now.

You have to install the drivers as an administrator, or they won't install correctly. You can then lower the security level to Power User, but no lower, to be able to upload pictures from camera to computer.

Ugh, I just bought this camera today.

I can't figure a damn thing out...
