Sony DSC-F717 underexposesHave a Sony DCS F717 that one day just began to only record very underexposed shots...almost completely white. Tried swapping sticks, no difference. Can I change the internal parts? I see many available on line. I mean so what if I break it, it is broken now. Disappointing, and Sony IS to blame. Don't give me that apologetic stuff about Sony. Anyway. Any help or ideas out there would be appreciated. Dave

If the shots are almost completely white then they are overexposed and not underexposed. Change the shutter speed, exposure and ISO settings. If that doesn't work then take it for repair.

My Sony DSC F717 just started doing the same thing as Dave's. The image looks great in the viewfinder, but as soon as I take the still photo the image bleaches out stark white. It worked fine until last night??

My Sony DSC-F717 is taking completely over-exposed photos, everything is a washed out white. I've tried all the white balance settings, and have even done a hard core reset. Every once in a while it will take one or two normal pictures and then go back to being washed out. Is it a problem I can fix or do I need to take it into repair?

Thanks for the help, i just spent 500 plus bucks to fix my brothers digital 2000 dollar camcorder that broke while I was borrowing it. Then my f717 broke and I started to look on line to see if I had screwed up a setting or if other people had a fix. You led me to sony. Im sending in my still camera, and im having my brother call them to see if they will reimburse him for his repairs. The guy at the repair shop had to know about it. He was just juicing the deal. And they are the renown atlanta camera shop. What ethics.

i'm having similar issues with mine the white scanned bleached immages but when i called to get it repaired and after a fustrating talk i was told to try a hard reset and my screen went blank just black and had horizontal purpleish pink flickering lines going on it was strange she said it was a problem with the CCD or somthing and offered free shipping to have it looked at and said it may be repaired for free due to a recall that occured hope it works out below are some images i belive these issues may be related possibly
dragon
well got a email saying the camera was fixed and they added a 3 month warrenty as well said i will be recieving my camera in 3 days :)
dragon
yes the repairs were free of charge so i'm assuming the two issues are both related to the CDD
dragon

I have same problem except works ok in movie mode. Sony told me that since it takes movies it is not the imager. Want $211 to repair. Has anyone else found a resolution to this problem?

magdeline I have the same problem with the streaks in camera mode, the video portion works just fine. My camera was dandy on Sunday and unworkable the next in terms of taking a clear shot. My images all look like the 2nd JPEG posted by Lionel. I'm hoping Sony will cover my repairs, this is such a bummer, I love my camera and it's worked fine for 4 years. Steph Bought 4 years ago. I use it regularly but as an amateur and now I have the same problem as describe by others users. No more pictures but video is working properly!!I'll try to send it back to Sony for free. alain perrin Same problem with white out photo. Camera is not under warranty. Has anyone with this problem and not the movie problem, sent their camera in to sony to be fixed for free? Jim the white scan lines are related to the CCD chip malfunction get the camera fixed free of charge by sony recall policy, they will say the white isn't related but mine had this issue before the typical purple black screen showed up might be early staged of this issue thats all. when i got my camera back i was told by the repair techs that the only issue my camera had was a CCD chip problem . dragon For those of you who are having this problem, the Sony site has an online notice about this problem and will fix the problem for free - inclusive of shipping, too! PLEASE BE AWARE THAT SONY WILL HONOR THIS REPAIR ONLY UNTIL OCTOBER 2, 2007. This is the link to that site: Below is what Sony had to say about this issue. Posted: 03/21/2006 It has come to our attention that a limited number of products, manufactured prior to March 2004, that incorporate a certain type of image sensor device (CCD) may exhibit the following: When the product is used in camera mode, the LCD panel and/or electronic viewfinder exhibits either a distorted image or no image at all. From October 3, 2005 through October 2, 2007, Sony will repair, free of charge, affected products exhibiting the above-mentioned problem where it is caused by the image sensor device. Sony will also cover the cost of shipping and handling from and to addresses within the United States and US Territories for service to correct this issue. IMPORTANT NOTE: For information regarding the proposed settlement of a class-action lawsuit related to this issue, please visit Important legal notice about cameras and camcorders. Connie Thank you so much for the info about Sony's website. My camera too had the CCD go bad and I noticed that their website has extended the warranty to Sep 2008. Thanks. MS Just recieved the same camera which was my sister's, she said if I can get it fixedm, then I can have it. My screen in picture mode and movie mode is completely blank, just black. I took it to a sony store to have them look at it, he said sounds like a recall. Just hope they have extended that warranty! brandtie My CCD Imager just went out two days ago. Found this class-action lawsuit that has passed. Wrote to Sony to see what they will do about this problem. Looks like the class-action lawsuit should be extended, like forever! This was an expensive camera. Really upsets me because I can't use it. Being in Fairbanks, Alaska, probably 1500 miles from a sony shop, this should be interesting! Jim Just received an answer from Sony Customer Service and they will cover the cost of repair until 9/30/08. They did ask me to perform one test, which is at the link below, to verify it was truly the CCD. Sony eSupport - DSC-F717 - Important Notice About Your SonyŽ Product Jim Jim I am in UK. A friend had the CCD of his DSC-F717 fail at a wedding last Saturday - disaster. I see on USA website the end date for free repair providing $15 carriage paid is now 31st March 2009. Nothing so specific on UK websitehttp://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowArticle.action?article=11280 . . . However he will be on the phone to Sony and will certainly be telling them that if he was in the USA he would get a free repair. I will post again with the outcome. David My camera has been in this "dead" state ever since Dec 2006. Lucky that I came across this as I really liked the camera! Checked the Sony site at http://esupport.sony.com/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=161&mdl=D . . . and found that the repair date has been extended to Nov 2009 and they have a shipping and handling charge of 20. Well, if they can fix it for 20 bucks, I will gladly pay it! and I will buy SOny products again! Master Chief Sony Australia in Sydney conducted the CCD repair FOC as at 30 July 2009. I am very appreciative of what Sony is doing because I really like this camera (although a little dated). I will continue to buy Sony stuffs (although they are a pain sometimes because they are proprietary) and I like the quality. I hope Sony will keep this level of service up. H Wong
