I have San Disk MagicGate 256MG card which I'd taken about 100 pictures with. Managed to take 50 off but when I went to download the last of them got an error message C:13:01. I did some research and figure that reformatting will solve the problem but I will also lose the pictures which I'd hate to do. Any suggestions as to how I can retrieve?

How about trying it in a dedicated card reader and see if you can copy those pictures off the Memory Stick?

I don't have one but will see if I can't locate. Does that generally solve the problem? Thanks for your response.

Sometimes. You have two goals:
1. Retrieve your precious pictures.
2. Trouble shoot what is wrong.
The independant card reader may help you to both. See if you can retrieve your pictuers with the card reader. If so, it should indicate to you that maybe the camera is at fault.

Card reader showed nothing on the stick which I know is not so since there were at least 50 there that I had seen prior to the error message. I don't think it is the camera as other sticks working fine. Definitely that SanDisk 256 mg thing.

Sound like it is the Memory Stick that faulted or corrupted. It will probably work again once you re-format it, but all of your data would be lost, if they are not lost already.
One last thing you might try is to find a free undelete and/or unformat utility. See if you can undelete the files or unformat the storage card.
