I have always like Canon cameras. So when I couldn't find a small Nikon P&S digital camera that can capture RAW or TIFF, I naturally started looking at the Canon PowerShot line-up of P&S digital cameras. Will the Canon PowerShot digital cameras disappoint me as much as the Nikon CoolPix digital cameras? Let's find out.
After downloading and reading the manuals for Canon's current line-up, the following cameras can and cannot support RAW/TIFF/JPEG format:
RAW
Canon PowerShot G6
Canon PowerShot Pro1
Canon PowerShot S60
Canon PowerShot S70
JPEG Only
Canon PowerShot A95
Canon PowerShot A400
Canon PowerShot A410
Canon PowerShot A510
Canon PowerShot A520
Canon PowerShot A610
Canon PowerShot A620
Canon PowerShot S1 IS
Canon PowerShot S2 IS
Canon PowerShot S80
Canon PowerShot SD20
Canon PowerShot SD30
Canon PowerShot SD200
Canon PowerShot SD300
Canon PowerShot SD400
Canon PowerShot SD430
Canon PowerShot SD450
Canon PowerShot SD500
Canon PowerShot SD550
Canon's offerings had four cameras that supported RAW mode (none supported TIFF). Only the S60 and the S70 are small enough for me to consider. Surprisingly, Canon eliminated the RAW mode from the new S80! Stupid move, Canon . . . The G6 has a lot of features, but like the Nikon CoolPix 8400, it's a bit too big and bulky.
Before I settle on the S60 or the S70, I'm going to look at other manufacturers. Stay tuned.

Couldn't we make a firmware hack to enable RAW mode on the A620? After all, the Digic II processor does support it. Why do manufacturers do such stupid things anyway?

Searchin' a long time for a firmware or Raw-Hack..
Canon do not give any Firmware for the Consumer A-Series, because it could be easy to hack RAW.
Who knows how to readout the FW ?
