Hi, I'm new to camera hacking, but I've had a keen interest in photography for years and I'm really excited to have found this site.
My question is; how can I hack my digital camera's cradle/dock so that I don't have to use it? I'd rather be able to plug my camera straight in to the computer via USB/just one cable to charge & download pics. I know I know, I should have thought about the annoying cradle factor BEFORE I bought the camera, but it was an impulse buy after a long flight.
The camera I have is the Canon IXUS i zoom. I've taken a photo of the cradle etc (obviously not with the camera in it as I had to use it to take the photos!). I don't know what kind of connection it's using between the cradle and the camera - it's not a USB connection.
Any ideas on how I could do this? Cheers :)

Welcome.
One thing that came to my mind is to take apart the cradle and see if the internal USB socket and camera connector can be converted into a cable.

Yeah, good idea.. hmm.. looks like there's just the 3 screws on the inner part of the cradle so perhaps I'll open it and see. If I manage to, I'll let you know :)

Here is the inside of my DSC-T11 docking cradle . . . Looks like it would be hard to turn it into a cable.

Hey! That's awesome that you pulled yours apart. I thought about it and decided it wasn't any use as I don't have the ability to combine the power source into a USB cable. Instead, I'll go for something like this USB-adaptor to turn SD cards into a USB thumb drive; https://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/drives/81a3/ Nifty!
