IR hack for canon digital rebel

I was wondering if anyone would be knew what the protocol was for the wireless remote control that the canon digital rebel uses. I am a computer engineer student and i wanted to build my own remote control using a microproccessor. I wanted to know what i would have to sending out to the camera to set off the shutter. let me know thanx

I would be interested in your progress on this one. I am interested in using my Sony Ericson T637 to set off the shutter via IR. If you have had any luck let me know. I was thinking of buying the RC-5 or RC-1 $25ish. I might be able to then decode it but I remember little about IR from EE.
