Memory Card Error with SD Card

Hi. I took some pics & video of my daughter riding today on my Canon Powershot A 540 camera & when i tried to download them to my pc it kept saying no new pics or videos found on this device when there was new pics & video. I tried my SD card in the SD slot on my laptop but still could not access the photos. When i tried the card back in my camera it says memory card error & i cant even view them on the camera now. Help! i really wanted these photos.
