Moisture damage

My Canon sd630 just spent 4 days in a raging class 3 river. It was in a dry bag but suffered some moisture. Seems to work fine except i get hte message "card locked!" (and its definitely not the card).

Do you think its worth the effort to research/reinstall firmware to fix this? any other comments?

thanks for any advice!

Did you open the camera up to let it dry?

Chances that there couold be a moisture under or in one of the connectors in the canera.
Chances that there could be some electrolytic damage to one of the traces between the camera
and the memory board bay connector if the battery had been left in the camera durring the
drying while you think that the camera was drying.

The common procedure is to remove the battery should a camera fall into the water.
This also calls for the removal of the clock and memory backup cell which is more often
hidden on the main board of the camera.

Remove the circuit board and give it a good wash.
Do not immerse the lens block that contains motors.

Then drive off bulk mosture from the washed board with compressed air hose being careful to
hold down any ribbon holdown flaps to prevent being blown away by the violent air.
Another drying method is to immerse the board in pure anahydres Ethonal alcohol.
Other solvents may damage some of the plastic board parts.

Place the board in the stream of a blow dryer set on low for an half to an full hour.

Then re-assemble. If the problem still persists, check for electrolytic trace damage.
