Mounting Digital Camera with Zoom Lens to C-Mount

I have a research microscope with a C-Mount exit-port on the top. I wish to attach a Canon PowerShot SX100 to this exit port to record images of samples. The camera doesn't appear to have a C-Mount adapter and the lens telescopes out from the body of the camera when it is turned on (therefore moving the image plane).

I am looking for a stable way to mount this digital camera to my C-Mount port. Any ideas?

Tim,

Unfortunately the lens engine is electronically tied in point and shoot cameras.
Seperating then would involve changing the camera's firmware.
Also Point and Shoot cameras have a real shutter in the lens.
You could use a DSLR with an expensive purchased adapter.

Alas, there is a way to use a point and shoot camera with a microscope without any
special modifications to either the camera or the microscope.
I have used just my thumb and forefinger to seperate between the camera's lens and the
normal eyepiece to properly align the relief of the ocular and the the pupilary of the
camera lens to fill the whole field as seen in the camera's screen.
Have done this at many of microscopical meetings where modifications of other people's
instruments are forbidden.

You could make an adapter with plastic pipe sections to hold the camera to one of the
microscope's eyepieces.

Good luck and take care
