I am constructing a box to house a Powershot A620 outside so that I can make a time lapse film over s paeriod of several months. I have built an external power supply to keep my camera going. The camera manual says the external power input is 4.3 Volts - which is an unusual voltage. My power unit is adjustable. When I set it to 4.3V the camera shows a red battery symbol, not mentioned in the manual. If I raise the voltage to around 4.5 all seems well.
Does anyone know the correct voltage provided by the Canon external power unit please?
Canon were competely useless at providing help. I asked them if the centre of the power plug on the Canon external power unit was positive or neagative. They refused to answer on health and safety grounds. I appealed to them, they simply repeated the same response. I sent photos of ten similar power units all of which have the polarity clearly makrked on the units asking if they could just tell me what was on the label - sent to the Product Director Canon UK. No response at all. What is wrong with this company?
Anyhow - the centre of the plug is positive if anyone is interested. I just need to know the actual supply voltage - the manual is clearly wrong - or deliberately misleading.
Thanks
Gordon

I am working on a time lapse project also and am just starting to look at building an external battery pack for a Powershot S70. My needs are slightly different as I only need a 24 hour power supply but one that is very portable. For the S70 the power is listed on the body and battery as 7.4v. Anyway, I've just started to investigate but am happy to share any info or resources I find. I am in Hong Kong rather than the UK and will let you know if I have any better luck getting information out of Canon Hong Kong.
How did you build your external power supply?

Just to update you I can report that Canon in Hong Kong were similarly unhelpful claiming that any technical information other than what was in the user manual was confidential and it was company policy not to release technical information to customers. In the end I used a six-cell battery pack from a RC car shop rated at 7.2v and it works fine.
