Using a Rebel XT for recording video

Hello, all!

I found one thing here that pertains to what I mean to do, but it only partially pertains.

What I want, is to capture video with my XT. Or rather...put another way: I want to bypass a consumer model camcorder's (Canon ZR500, etc...) single CCD, and use my XT's 3 CCD's to get decent video. The XT has a video out, but this is meant to display your photos on a monitor. You expose, you wait for the image to process, and then the image appears. If there was a way to bypass the...processing...and to dump it live into an external output...I imagine that it would involve this. A tripping of the shutter, and a tripping of the circuit inside.

There would be some problems, of course. Frame rate for one, but I believe that this could be dealt with.

There should be a way to do this, but I cannot figure it out. There is no way that I am going to dish out $5000 for a camcorder that records color properly, like it should to begin with.

I don't think it's possible to use the video out on the Digital Rebel XT. What you can do is use the Canon TC-80N3 timer remote to repeatly capture the scene over time and then put all the frames together into a video. Here is a good example: Time-Lapse Photo Video.

The Canon TC-80N3 doesn't plug into the Canon Digital Rebel XT directly. But you can modify it so that it works: Converting N3 Accessories to E3. Or you can buy one that's been modified: Modified Photo Gear.

hi there,
I doubt the data rate is fast enough to provide 25 frames/sec (moreover, XT is usb1 if i remember well)
