Hi.
Great site.
Here's a real warranty-voiding question for you.
The top of many tripod heads have two "knobs". The first is the screw that holds the camera onto the tripod. The second is a spring-loaded pin that pops into another hole on the base of the camera. I think it is called a video pin and is really made for video cameras more than still cameras. It is for stability and to keep the camera from rotating.
If you go to www.bhphotovideo.com and search for " MH642 " you will see a quick release plata that has the pin.
How can one drill a hole in the bottom of a Digital Rebel (300) without going through the electronics, etc., and also keeping out water? How thick is the material -- can you drill only part-way through?
Thanks.
Pat.

It's very thin. Take a look here:
Canon Digital Rebel (300D) Modification Continued Page 2
Noticed that there is a circuit board right next to the bottom surface? If you are going to attempt this mod, you'll want to disassemble the camera and drill the external case from the internal components. Plus, you'll want to place an insulator on the circuit board to prevent the quick release plate's stabilizing pin from shorting out the circuit.
By the way, the spring-loaded pin on the video tripod quick release plate could retract if your camera doesn't have a stabilizing hole, so it should work with your Digital Rebel without any modification.
