bypass Pictbridge function on 30D

I would like to find a way to bypass the Pictbridge function. I am getting really poor connection times when I plug my 30D into my computer and I think the Pictbridge is messing with things. It is taking about 3 minutes for my computer to recognize the camera and Canon says that it is not the camera. I am absolutely sure that it is not the computer because connection times on cameras without Pictbridge. Any helps or hacks would be appreciated.
