I bought an aftermarket Mini hdmi to hdmi cable to connect my canon sx200is to my samsung hdtv to view videos. It is not working. Is it possible that canon only allows thier mini hdmi to hdmi cable to interface?

I don't believe so... I have a cheap HDMI to mini HDMI adapter and it works fine with my canon SD780 IS. I got it from dealextreme.com which normally has very cheap quality stuff.
