remote shutter trigger - wireless

Does anyone know of a way to make a remote shutter trigger that is wireless?
It seems that the cables are usually 2 feet long and I wanted something for longer distances from my Canon Rebel EOS.

Did you want to make it from scratch? Like down at the schematic level? Or did you want to jury-rig an already working wireless remote system? What is your goal? To avoid the high cost of buying a wireless remote that is already made for your camera?

If you are trying to avoid the high cost of the remote, then one easy solution is to get an inexpensive remote (say a wireless door bell), and hack it to work with your camera. It could be easily done with a relay in the loop. Download the first chapter of my "Hacking Digital Camera" book to see how to use a relay as part of your trigger loop.
