Fujifilm FinePix J30 -- The small wonder.

At 9.2cm wide x 5.6cm high x 2.0cm deep, the Fujifilm FinePix J30 is one of the smallest compact point and shoot cameras in the market. The basic specs of the camera are quite commendable - it features a 3x Fujinon Optical Zoom lens, feeding a sensor capable of 12.2 million effective pixels and comes with a superb 2.7” TFT LCD display screen. The lens has a focal length of 5.7 - 17.1mm, equivalent to 32 - 96mm on a 35mm camera.

If you have even struggled with trying to fit in large groups of people into one frame or tried to work with panoramic landscape shots, you will appreciate the new 'Panoramic shooting' mode which works by automatically stitching together three consecutive shots to produce one seamless panoramic picture.

The Auto Scene Recognition mode can select between Landscape, Macro, Portrait, Night, Night Portrait and Backlit Portrait modes, to automatically adjust the image parameters for optimal results.

The Face Detection & Red-eye removal features ensure high quality portraits, while the Picture stabilization mode takes care of camera shake or subject movement. The manual scene selection menu offers a choice of 15 scene options such as Portrait, Landscape, Sport, Anti-blur and Panorama.

The camera is capable of recording movie clips in VGA (640 x 480 pixels) or QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) modes at 30 frames per second, with monaural sound. The optical zoom function can be used even during the movie recording mode adding to the camera's versatility. The length of the movie clips is limited only by the capacity of the memory card and can go up to 100 minutes with an 8GB card. All other features are more or less as per industry standards, including an auto-flash, ISO settings ranging from ISO-100, all the way up to an ISO-3200 (3 mega pixel mode).

One interesting effect that can be achieved with the 'Panorama' mode is to take three linked pictures where the main subject has actually moved across the frames and when stitched together, the result is one photo with three instances of the subject.

Among the notable features in the image playback mode is the micro-thumbnail mode, where up to 100 pictures are displayed in a 10x10 matrix. The playback mode also has Face Detection, Auto Red-eye removal, Slideshow and Multi-frame playback options. The camera allows you to sorting images by date, rotate or trim photos.

The bottom line is that this is one easy-to-use pocket sized wonder.

The J30 is problematic for me because video clips are limited to 30 minutes for no reason.
I need multiple hour recording.
