HP R707 as portable video player

I can mount the HP R707 as a flash drive via USB and upload jpegs to it that were not taken with the camera and then I can see them in the viewer. The R707 also takes it's own video and plays them with sound. I'm assuming that I can upload an externally take MPG into the camera and play it, if it has the same codec, because I unloaded a MPG taken by the camera, formatted the stick and re-uploaded it with a different name and it still played.

So what codec does the R707 use? I know it is MPEG-2, but I am missing some stats.

Or: Is there any way to get all the essential information from the camera-taken MPG, so that I may be able to know what format to convert to?

I think MPEG-2 is the codec.
