Hello, my girlfriend's camera fell in some sand and now it no longer works. I wanted to disassemble it to see if I could repair it, but I can't seem to get it apart with all the screws removed. This grey plastic area around the viewfinder in the top left of the back seems to be holding the back plate on.
Does anybody know how to disassemble a digital camera like this?

Hello, Jonathan:
"DarnToothySam" not only sells/auctions secondhand digital cameras (and their individual parts), he also fixes them, and his prices seem quite reasonable.
I'm a former customer, incidentally. In an attempt to repair my Kodak DX4530, I bought a used LCD panel ($39.95 + shipping), from him.
Installing the item failed to solve the problem, alas, but I was able to send it back, for a full refund (minus return shipping costs, of course).
Here are his Web sites:

Good luck!

Hi there.
I don't know if you are still dealing with that camera.
If you are, look carefully for a hole in the plastic frame which have a bolt at its bottom.
It's hard to see it at first. In the camera I disassembled, the bolt was located near the right-bottom angle of the little viewing windows (sorry, can't remember how to properly name that part in English :)).
I enclose a picture to make myself clear.

I have an EasyShare DX6340 that has the exact same body as the CX6445 shown above. I am having problems with on/off dial. When it is in the off position, it turns on briefly when the dial is jiggled or moved slightly. I would like to take it apart and examine and clean it. The back looks like it comes off pretty easily with just three screws, but I am afraid to try to pry off the on/off dial. Does it just pop right off? Or is there a special position to pry it off? How do you get that dial off?
