Kodak C Series Battery Mod

I bought a CW330 with a Series 3 Printer Dock for myself and Bought a C330 with a Camera Dock for my wife. Both docks came with a Kodak 2100 Mah Ni-MH battery packs. I also noticed that the cameras were designed to only charge Kodak made Ni-MH battery packs that were twice the price of normal AA Ni-MH batteries.

Me being a technician decided I could probably mod the camera to take normal AA Ni-MH batteries to save money. I looked at the Kodak Ni-MH battery packs and noticed they were 2 normal AA Ni-MH batteries wrapped in a sticker with a special plastic spacer in between the batteries. So I looked inside the cameras battery compartment and noticed a switch. The plastic spacer on the Kodak Ni-MH battery pack has a plastic bump that when the Kodak Ni-MH battery pack in inserted in the C330 the bump closes the switch thus enabling the camera to charge the battery pack when docked.

So I disassembled each camera and soldered a jumper wire across the switch in the battery bay of each camera, thus enabling the switch permanently. Now I can use 2 regular Ni-MH batteries in each camera thus saving money.

For example, Kodak Ni-MH 2100 mAh battery packs are $25.00 each. I found a 4 pack of AA Ni-MH 2600 mAh batteries for $20.00. Less then the 1 Kodak battery pack and with 4 AA Ni-MH 2600 mAh batteries I can use 2 of them for each camera and they will last longer between charges because they are higher mAh and they were cheaper as well. The only downfall was the limited Kodak Warranty is now voided. But from what I have read on these camera forums Kodaks service is no better then any other companies service, which these days is dismal. Me being a tech can probably repair the cameras myself. Thanks for that info. I plan on getting a camera dock at some point, and likewise, don't plan on spending money on a proprietary battery, just to have the dock charge the battery. I simply cut a small piece of a popsicle stick, stuck it in, and taped that in there.

I think the reason Kodak stuck that switch in there, is so that non-rechargable batteries, like akaline or oxy-akaline, or certain lithium batteries cannot be recharged with the camera dock, and unfortunately also inconvenieces the consumers that don't know about this switch in the process.

Yes that is true, so anyone who does this mod, do not dock the camera with non rechargeable batteries in the camera.

Thanks, I don't usually fiddle around with tech devices. Although searching on the web for the correct battery pack I found that kodak were charging £99.99 for a new pack. Personally I think this is outrageous and with the way technology is advancing today, totally not worth it!!! So I to took the old batteries out of the casement they were in with the little plastic device to push the button down inside the battery compartment, and popped the plastic device back into the compartment slid my new rechargeable batteries into place and 'hey presto' my camera is now happily charging in it's docking station!! However if I had not come across your site with it's info when looking for new batteries I would of spent a small fortune on new battery set, or a new camera......
