Olympus C-2100UZ Color Calibration

In case this could be helpful to somebody or someone has more info for me, I will relate the following story:

I found various pieces of software floating around the internet which allowed me to send commands over the serial port or usb port to my olympus 2100UZ camera. As I was interested in doing some remote-controlled shooting, this was a good thing. I wrote some code, got the pc to grab images and display them while I was hiding where the birds couldn't see me, etc, and all was going well until....

There were some commands in the software that were 'protected' from being sent to the camera, I supposed because they were dangerous. I do not remember exactly what happened or how I did it, but I DO know the result. I sent the camera the command to perform "color calibration" - and the lens-cap was on.

Months of messing with it, trying every scene I could think of in front of the camera to get it to recalibrate, emailing olympus, etc... no luck.

After much trial and error I zero'd in on a solution. A very bright rainbow visible spectrum projected onto a white screen directly in front of the camera from a holographic diffraction grating such that the color bars were vertical and arranged red-to-indigo left to right (or was it right to left)-- Tell the camera to recalibrate, and MAGIC - it's good as new. I think.

If anybody else has done such a stupid thing as I did and has managed to fix their camera, I would like to hear about it. Also, does anybody know how these things are really calibrated at the factory?

The program was photopc by E. Crosser

I have been using the camera without any real trouble ever since this recalibration step.
