Olympus E500 IR remote control, RM-1

I really enjoy your book, but I am having a problem that I hope you can help correct. The IR remote control unit, RM-1, does have a slight delay of about 1-2 seconds, even though the camera setting for it is at 0 seconds. How can I get the shutter to work as soon as I press the shutter switch on the remote??

Thanks

John,

Thanks for your encouragement on my book.

It's quite typical for camera manufacturers to put in a 1 to 2 second delay when using the IR port. Because the IR remote requires a direct line of sight to the front of the camera, the manufacture probably just wants to give you a little bit of time to drop your arm.

Unfortunately, I don't know any way of speeding up the IR interface on your Olympus EVOLT DSLR. I did look up the E-500 to see if it had an external trigger port, to find that it didn't. If it had a trigger port, I'd suggest buying an inexpensive RF trigger remote on E-Bay. The good news is that you can wire in your own trigger port using the information presented in the book in your hand.

I recently found an inexpensive RF remote flash trigger on eBay for around $20. I was able to trigger my Canon EOS SLR cameras with it, which I'm hoping to write-up on my web site soon.
