After having own three different digital cameras, two of which were point and shoot and the other being a SLR, I found myself wanting the best of both worlds. I wanted a camera that was easy to carry yet had the features of an SLR. I recently purchased the Olympus SP-600 and I must say I am quite pleased with my buy. The camera includes numerous features which make it an enjoyment to use. The camera includes one gigabyte of internal memory while still allowing the user to purchase an addition SD card for more storage. Large data storage is a must as the camera includes 12 megapixels with an amazing 15x zoom. The 15x zoom is very impressive, as it is wide angle and dual image stabilized. Photos always appear clear and sharp due to the intelligent auto focus, which can identify the type of subject you are taking photos of. After taking your photos you can view them on a clear and vivid 2.7 inch LCD screen. The amazing features don't stop here. The camera is capable of recording full HD 720p movies, with a simple touch of a button. On the camera also includes software that allows you to edit your photos. Now do not get my wrong this camera is no Photoshop, but allows you to add effects and borders to your images. There are many effects such as multiple art filters which give your photos an artistic feel and look without the use of the computer. For the advanced photographer, the camera includes the usual PASM modes, and is able to go to low apertures such as 2.8F which are perfect for portraits. All the photos I have taken so far are clear and crisp and do not contain any noise or distortions. Olympus really created a beast of a camera here.
Overall the build quality of the camera is quite solid and feels good in your hand. The camera isn't too heavy or too light and it doesn't feel very flimsy, however try not to drop it. A case is recommended as due to its size it may be a bit difficult to keep in a hand bag. Overall my favorite feature of the camera would have to be the zoom. The zoom is perhaps its selling point, as you get high quality images regardless of the zoom level. Most cameras today are unable to take clear photos are passing the 10x mark. I was very impressed.
