Does anyone have any experience with these relatively cheap kits that consist of 3 lenses that provide a 2X converter to get from 10x to 20x, and the wide angle. My wife has started watching birds and is wanting to take photos so she can recognize the species and I'm wondering if these gadgets are good enough. They certainly are priced right, something like $50 for the set on fleabay. The 10X just doesn't get there.
tks

The 2x teleconverter will get your wife closer to the birds, but the bird won't fill the entire frame. You'll need to stack multiple teleconverters to get more magnification. Or find a 5x that works with your camera.
See "Sima SLS-20 2x Telephoto Conversion Lens" to get an idea of stacking teleconverters and to see magnification effects of a 2x teleconverter.
Also take a look at "Teleconverter Magnification Comparison", because I believe the Sima SLS-20 is actually a 1.4x teleconverter and not a 2x teleconverter.
