The New K-7 Is Impressive

Just a few weeks ago, a new camera was introduced by Pentax, the K-7 digital SLR; it's a midrange camera that replaces their previous model, the K20D. If you've used some cameras before, but you're still aspiring to be the next Adams or Leibovitz, then this model's impressive features should serve you quite nicely:

- The LCD display is a full three inches with 921,000 pixels. This allows users to capture very detailed images. If movies are your preference for the day, capturing and viewing them is optimal with the Live View function.

- The K-7 allows for continual shots of 5.2 frames per second (or 15 RAW or 40 JPEG). It processes with its new PRIME II engine and allows for very quick connections with low noise so it's great for capturing the next big sports moment or other fast-moving actions. There's even a RAW button that lets users easily switch back and forth between RAW and JPG formats with no need to go in and adjust file format settings.

- A sensor-shift image stabilization component will let you enjoy rotating sensor movement.

- Movies are recorded in high definition at 128 x 720 and 30 frames per second with sound. With it's high definition, wide screen, shake reduction feature, and external microphone that records in stereo sound, your “mini feature films” will impress all its viewers. (Forget Adams, maybe a Speilberg type future is looming instead?)

- Its High Dynamic Range capacity allows you to take three exposures and combine them into just one.
The camera's body is compact and has a sealed magnesium alloy body to resist weather. It's resistant to temperatures as low as 14 degrees, so it may handle the cold better than you will.

It's hard to believe, but the new, reduced size is about 7% smaller than its predecessor and it's almost a full 25% smaller size of most other cameras in the same class. It will be durable, but also light enough to travel easily. Like other similar cameras, the lens is the biggest part of its size. With the typical square shape, you'll find it comfortable to hold securely; the hand grips are grooved and indented so you'll keep hold of it while moving about for multiple shots.

When you buy the K-7, you'll find several accessories accompanying the camera; these include a USB cable, AC power cord, charing cable and cradle, strap, a frame matte and more. While the camera has not been available for long, it has already had good reviews for image quality, it has “fairly high dynamic range” and “produces sharp images in low light.”

Overall, the Pentax K-7 is the probably one of the most customizable cameras available. With its Advanced Custom Function offerings, users are able to make the camera work for their style and needs, not the reverse. While $1200 may seem a bit pricey to some, for the aspiring photographer who desires remarkable shots and superior adaptability, it's a price worth paying.
