Digital Concepts 5.1Megapixel Digital Camera Review

well i bought a Digital Concepts 5.1mp for 59.77 it works great takes good bideo and picture better then my Kodak easy share 7.1mp it takes better video then it but not pictures it take same quality pics and also bought a 1gb X mem stick for it new brand only 14.99 good deal the only thing i didnt like its to plain comes with no store thingy.

I just bought a new digital concepts 5.1 megapixel with a 4xzoom. got it home from Wal-mart put batteries in it and the damm thing don't work. Too top it off I can't take it back cause it is an electonics item and it is over $40.00 even with my recpiet in hand no such luck. Had i not opened the package I would have been just fine and gotten my money back. Let me know when someone finds a way to try out this camera with out opening it God only knows how to put the batteries in while the package is hermetically sealed. sincerly Gordon Colo. Spgs. I just bought the camera off ebay actually even though i only spent $35 on it
Im sending it back bc the quality of the pictures suck, its either way to bright with the flash or without its way to dark
i want my money back im sure to who everyone who bought it has the same way
its a big FAT waste of money

I purchased this camera for my 10 year old daughter to take on a class trip. I had absolutely no problems downloading the software and interfacing with it. The one problem I did have was with the flash. That was easily addressed by putting a "smiley face" sticker over about 2/3 of the flash. With regard to someones post about the batteries, I had a similar problem with my Kodak digital camera. I used regular alkaline batteries and the camera froze up. I couldn't do anything with it and had to send it back to Kodak to be fixed. Lithium batteries work really well, so that is what I put in my daughter's camera. For the money and for a 10 year old, it does what I needed it to do.

Okay, so I paid $39 for this 5.1 camera at Walmart, and I am trying to decide whether to keep it. First of all, many people posting here have more problems than a cheap camera. (1) If your operating system cannot detect the camera, then you should switch operating systems. This is just a generic FAT16 USB drive. My Linux computer reads the driver with no "sakar" drivers or software loaded. If it works with the open source Linux operating system, then it should work on any other operating system. My advice to you is look into Ubuntu Linux for your next computer purchase. (2) If you see a digital camera that takes a long time capturing an image, then you have to keep it steady during that whole time, for goodness sakes. That's why your images are getting messed up. It comes with a tripod mount, if you are interested. (3) The device MUST have an SD-Card inserted to save pictures. The manual is quite clear on this, but if you are too lazy to read it, then yes you will lose your pictures everytime it shuts off. (4) Not sure if the camera is worth keeping, because I cannot seem to get any pictures in focus. That's my only complaint. It does give a lot of megapixels for the cost, but I am not sure if it is worth it. My cell phone does almost as good of a job, as this camera. Here is my sample picture taken in low light. Not the greatest clarity, but a hell of a lot better than the above pictures. Hold your cameras steady, people!

Wanted to give some more information after playing with this camera a bit more. So, the FLASH is a big concern for most here. The flash is good for only one thing, taking pictures in the dark. As long as there is other light, you are better off without the flash, as it does bleach the entire image white. But check out my image of a night-light in an otherwise pitch-black hallway (below).

Also, the quality of the images might not be great, but take the picture in the highest resolution, then downscale it to a lower resolution on your computer later. This should result in a better image. Lastly, don't expect close-ups to look good. Capture images from one pace away from your subject.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, this camera is not the greatest, and it is just a hair better than a cellphone camera. But, damn if it isn't cheap, portable, and extremely compatible. I think I am going to keep mine. Thanks for the warnings about the batteries. I will be sure to keep them outside the camera when it is not in-use. Also, another tip, I noticed some dust on the camera lens, so I used a Q-Tip and mouthwash to gently wipe the lens clean. Seems to take clearer shots now. Good shooting!

well i see alot of batts dying!! cam wont power up etc etc. i have the 5.1 meapixel i took 8 pics with it went on a 11 day vacation, it sat in the case, no one but father time touched it, and guess what the P O S wont power up. i didnt save my recipt but im going to raise cain anyways just to do it. it wasnt worth the 70 hard earned dollars i spent for it. i even recharged the rechargable batteries to make sure i wasnt smoking crack. maybe next time i will read the posts because as the saying goes the customer is ALWAYS right !

I don't know what these reviews are talking about. I bought 3 of these on clearance at Kmart for honestly $19 each. I got them for so cheap that was expecting the worst. I was, instead, pleasantly surprised. The silver looking buttons are all metal and not plastic. The plastic that people may be referring to is the dial to switch camera settings. The camera takes really decent if not, nice pictures. I tried one out in the sun and the photos came out great. Almost as nice as my Kodak camera. Since they looked so great, I decided to keep the other 2 and give them to my daughters to use on our vacations and when they go on fieldtrips to school. Honestly, the camera takes nice photos. My daughter used it to talk photos at the Aerosmith concert and her's came out, mine did not using my Kodak camera. You can add flash, timer, whatever. It even allows you to choose between megapixel settings. It also shoots movies. The fact that you can put in your own SD card makes it even better. It is not much larger than a cell phone and fits in my purse to use for everyday surprise moments I want to capture. I even take this one to the beach! Then I don't have to lug around my "good" Kodak camera. For the price I paid, it was so worth it.
