Have an old DSC-P9 which has died on me. Power failed when turned on, lens remained out. Now will not turn on, no power. Have tried various reset button options but still no joy. Opened up for a look at ribbon connectors etc but no good. Eased the lens back into closed position again but still no power up. Is there a common failure on this camera, like a micro fuse or voltage regulator??? Any help appreciated thanks.

I also have the same exact problem with my DSC-P9, the lens is stuck out and will not power on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Found the cause of my problem. Turns out it's the mode selector/On.Off button thats broken. There's a ribbon cable goes from there to the PCB inside and it's cracked. Hard to see it but I buzzed it out with a meter. New part coming from camera shop approx 30. Thought it was worth the expense as it's a good camera. Tried a 2nd hand one at camera shop but it was the same...common problem perhaps? Will let you know how it goes when the part arrives.

It lives...fitted part today and it works a treat. Very easy to fit, well worth the expense to get the camera back working again.

Thanks for the update. A 30 pounds fix is definitely worth it for a camera that costs several hundred pounds.

Wendy, Is it the same Sony camera(DSC-P9). If so, then it's possibly the same fault I had. I didn't drop mine either it just stopped working. Was approx 4years old.
