DSC F717 side slot

never hacked anything in my life but i do have a sony dsc f717 cam and i would like to know of any of you have any idea as to what that little slot next to the reset button and the memory stick slot is for( see the attached pic) .. any comments will be greatly appreciated in satisfying my curiosity :)
