I have looked through a lot of threads with basically the same idea so I decided to consolidate:
I have a W80 with the E:62:11 error. Showed up sporatcally after a couple hard hits. It wasn't a problem; i didn't notice any lower image quality and it would still let me take pix, just with that error message being obnoxious. The only annoying part was the really long load times to turn the camera on... At first it would only happen every now and then, then all the time. Tried the "tapping" (it actually took a decent whack on each of the sides-while the camera was on and in picture mode-to get the error to clear, and the startup time back to normal). I guess the most old fashioned method of fixing things still applies to modern technology, haha!
From what I've read, this method works on just about all sony T and W series (including mine) cameras with a similar code/symptoms. Give it a try.
Even though this is an easy fix, SONY... fix this problem. It obviously is very common, and affects just about all of your bestselling cameras.

I believe you need to reset the settings back to normal do this and fault goes away. Not too sure about giving it a whack though!!!
Follow these steps.
Press HOME> SETTINGS> MAIN SETTINGS> INITIALIZE> OK
The Cyber-Shot will restart and you just need to re set teh time & date.

gave the 62:12 error on a dsc w80 after dropping about 2 feet into some grass( not a hard drop)
error comes up sporadically but also noticed that when the error is flashing the pictures will come up as if i took a picture holding the camera longways( hope that made sense) tried resetting to default setting...didnt work. tried giving it a wack....looks good so far, we will have to wait and see.

Tried the tapping...no luck. Gave the Home>Settings>main settings>Initialize>ok trick and that seemed to do the trick. I guess it's a sensor issue if previously dropped. that would explaing why tapping it would loosing the jam and why the pics would be flipped if taken vertically.

I have done everything listed in this site, and other sites. However nothing wored for me.
Finally gave it to the SONY service center. As per them, this error comes due to corruption in software (for lens)
I will get to know the results in couple of days - Fingures crossed!!

Problem lies with battery connections
Reove battery and give a good clean.

I have a DSC-T77, i used the tapping method, the picture is totally clear but the error is not going away. I initialized, changed all settings, removed battery-inserted again but the error is not going away an because of the error my camera is not letting me to capture pics or record videos. Is there any way that i can use my camera again?

I cleaned my lens and went into menu, toolbox and turned off auto orientation. The E:62:12 message went away and the review images oriented correctly once again
