Hardware hack for Sony DSC-V3?

I read on another site about a hardware hack of a Sony DSC-V3 to make it an infrared camera. He had put a switch in to his V3 to control the solenoid that moved the IR filter. He was able to turn the solenoid off and cycle into normal mode without having to deal with the \"decency filter\" that sony added to stop guys from seeing through women's clothes.

What I want to be able to do to my V3 is to use another feature of the camera to control the solenoid. On this camera it is able to detect that an extension ring has been added, so that it disables the zoom for going out and perhaps hitting a lense or filter. In order to shoot IR, you need a filter on. So if the added switch was only active to disable the solenoid when the filter was on and would simply passed through the the commands to the solenoid otherwise you would have a pretty cool setup.

My problem is that I am not skilled at openning up a camera and figuring out the layout of the board. I also really wouldn't know how to add a switch without destroying the camera. Are the schematics of cameras available somewhere? Tips? Suggestions?
