P93 Power up problem when taking pictures

my problem in a nutshell:
my Sony P93 will not allow me to take still or video pics but will allow access to content on Memory Stick

when I turn camera on in still mode, the shutter opens, power on light comes on then goes off leaving shutter open
same for video mode

does anyone else have this problem - the camera is 2-3 years old

My P93A just started having the SAME problem. It started working again for 3 pictures and then pooped out. If you've found a solution, please let me know!

Have a Sony P93 that won't power up (well the light comes of for about 1/4 second) in any mode but picture view and setup. If you power up in those modes and switch to another it immediately shuts down.

I got the same problem. I solved it by changing batteries. (not really the best way to do this, though)
