SONY NEX 5 recommendation, sexy & compact

How does the Sony NEX 5 appear to me? Without hesitation, I must say that the Sony NEX 5 strikes me as "bold!" What a refreshing camera experience, after so much of the same old same old. The Sony NEX 5 does not even think about trying to look like an SLR or range finder camera, but instead it actually looks much more like a mid size digital camera that has a big lens merged on to the front of it. Having an 18 to 55 mm lens attached, the Sony NEX 5 actually succeeds in pulling off an OVER emphasis on optics, with the accentuation strengthened even more by the lens having a shiny sexy aluminum barrel, which implies precision by it's very shape alone. Sexy and bold, that is how this camera appears. Refreshingly so. It is about time!

Compared to previous NEX models (such as NEX 3) by Sony, it strikes me as being designed with more sophistication with its smaller, more sexy and appealing appearance. It actually resembles more of the distinctive, appealing cameras Sony produced from 2000 to 2002, such as the SONY F505 through the F717. Compared to the new NEX 5's competition, the SONY NEX 5 is the smallest, lightest design, which certainly carries an appeal in this era, when our pockets (and purses) are already full of numerous technologies (cell, mini-laptop, chargers, etc...). The body is magnesium alloy and weighs only 10.2 ounces (288 grams or .63 lbs.), or if you add the battery and card and lens, the weight increases slightly to 17.7 ounces (502 grams or 1.1 lbs.). This compares to other cameras favorably: with lens, battery, and card, the Samsung NX10 weighs in at 21.5 ounces (610 grams or 1.3 lbs) and the Olympus E-P2 weighs in at 19 ounces (539 grams or 1.2 lbs.).

The SONY NEX 5 has a ton of great features that I love! Here are some of my favs: It is comfortable to hold despite its small size, the lens barrels have an excellent feel and really look great (aka impressive!), somehow it still has good heft despite being light weight, stereo audio recording, its high contrast display looks great just about everywhere, it has a high resolution tilting LCD, its hand held Twilight mode captures and aligns multiple images into one sharp shot, its anti motion Blur mode raises the shutter speed and combines multiple images for a single shot, its sweep Panorama captures wide panoramic images with one sweep across the scene, very fast download speeds, dual card format slot, detachable flash included, and live AF during movie recording.
