Hi, I recently brought my Sony Cybershot DSC-W80 to some sand dunes in Michigan. I guess I got some sand in it, because now when I turn it on, the lens goes in and out a few times and then it tells me to turn it off and on again. I have tried using canned air to clean it out as I turn it on, and I've managed to get the shutter doors to open and close (they were stuck open before). I have also tried tapping it on the table to try and dislodge any sand stuck inside. I cannot get the lens itself to work properly though, and I can hear a grinding noise as it opens. I'm worried I may have done more damage.
Does anyone have any tips for opening it up to clean it out? I'm wary to do this, but if it's broken anyway, I might as well try. I've never done anything like that before, so I would appreciate any tips.
Thanks!
Lisa

Same thing happened to my DSC w80 yesterday at the beach. The was sand in the cylinder. The sand left thin, curvy slashes on the sides as it rose and turned. The whole "the lens goes in and out a few times and then it tells me to turn it off and on again" bit happened to me. I kept turning it off and on yesterday and today and just now it turned on fine. Then i kept iopening and closing the shutter by hand and now it does so on its own again. I can still hre the sand grinding but it'll pass, i bet.
Bon chance. Hope it helps.

I have the exact problem.
I opened it up, cleaned out sand, and it still gives me the same problem. The only thing I get out of it is the constant "turn off then on again" with a E:62:11 flashing error.
I'm beginning to think the camera is done.
