Sony DSC-F717 Flash Problem

This DSC F717 camera is the worst camera I have ever owned. I am sorry that I bought it. My old Canon FTQL 35mm SLR was the best I ever owned. Took a beating all over the world and never had a hiccup.

The F717 had the main switch replace once already for smearing of the pictures.

Lately, some of my pictures taken on automatic with the flash have heavy borders around the downstram side of the object. As if on would draw a parallel shadow all around the figure.

Does anyone have any idea what this is? Has anyone had any success with settings to eliminate this problem? Or is this just an inherent problem with digital cameras.

I am also getting red eye on some pictures.

Thanks

Is the border shadow cast by your subject from the flash? That is a pretty common problem caused by on camera flash. There are several ways around this problem. One, lower the flash exposure compensation for indoor shots. Two, soften the flash with a diffuser. Three, bounce the flash off the wall or ceiling (you can use a mirror for this purpose). Four, use a wireless slave flash to eliminate the shadows.
