"turn on and off again"

Okay, I know that many people have had this problem. I went to the beach, sand got inside, and the lens cap is stuck. The gears are probably jammed because I hear it going "rrrrr" everytime I turn it on. I disassembled my camera... but I couldn't get the lens cap out. Oh, and I got electrically shocked twice lol so I'm scared to try it again.

So these are the things that I need answered:

1. Is there a way to reduce my risk of getting shocked again?! Because... it hurts.
2. How do I get the lens cap out?!

I have a DSC-P100 Sony Cybershot. I feel like I'm better off just buying a new one, but this camera worked so good. It just bothers me that it's such a small problem so I want to get it fixed.

It is likely you got shocked by the flash ciruitry; the big flash capacitor containing high voltage. First thing is to remove the battery. After removing the battery, let the camera sit for a few days. It's possible that the charge will deplete by itself; but there is no guarantee. You can try draining the capacitor. If you are an electrical engineer, you'll know how to do that. There are probably web pages on it. I'm not an electrical engineer, nor am I anywhere near a more capable computer--I am on a wireless Handheld PC--so I can't find the resource for you.

I am usually just very careful when I disassembly my cameras. I don't touch any of the electrical circuitries, unless I have to. In those cases, I wear a glove. Usually it's suffice to handle the board by the edge.

Ohhhhhh, thank you. I think I'll just buy a new camera haha, but perhaps I'll get back to trying to fix this camera some other time.
