cannot turn on or charge

The last person to use my camera did not close the lens cover, only turned off the camera using the on/off button. Battery had plenty of charge at the time.

Since then, the camera will not respond to any efforts to power up- either via the on/off button or movement of the lens cover.

I tried to plug in the power cord to charge the battery, but the charge light does not illuminate, still after 8 hours of being plugged in (I realize that when the battery is full, the light goes off- but it never went on.) When pluged into the usp connection to the computer, the computer does not recognize the camera.

Is this fixable???? Do you have a trick for me to try? Or, do I just start shopping for a new camera?

if the camera has just been turned on standby (lens remains out but screen goes black) that can eat your battery which means the lens wont retract without charge. I take it your battery is charged inside the camera, and not removed and put into a charger? It might be worth trying a new battery (return it straightaway for refund if it doesn't work) or checking the charger (fuse, different socket). if the batteries old (a year plus generally), it may need replacing and that may have been the cause. It seems odd that both the charger and the camera went down at the same time! Otherwise you can try taking it into a camera shop and asking their advice, some can be more than helpful even if you didn't buy it from them. Good luck
