I have a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-5600. I want to delete pictures from the Memory Stick so that I can regain space to take new pictures is this possible? if so, how do I do it? I am following the instructions for "view/delete images" but maybe I am not understanding and hitting the correct buttons...

Take a look at the two TrackBacks below. They should help you delete photos from your digital camera.

Can't find my instruction manual so I had to research this question for the third time. I usually just delete each one individually. The camera should be set up so that you could trip over the answer but it's not.
They actually tell you how to do this in the "Read This First" instructions that came with the camera and no where else not even on the website.
And someone has translated the instructions to english for us which I found by searching on Deleting images from Sony Cyber shot. They are as follows.
Turn on camera
Press the PLAYBACK button (button with triangle above screen on back)
Look at the top of the camera and slide the ZOOM control to ‘-’
The playback screen now shows multiple slides per screen.
Press delete button (the one on the bottom of the back of the camera)
Press theUP button twice to select ‘delete all’
Press the CENTER button in the middle of the arrow buttons to delete.
All gone!
You can go on the sony website and print out the "Read this first" instructions so you have it.

Title: How do you delete pictures off of the camera?
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: Sam, the best thing to do is to take the memory card out and read it on your computer with a memory card reader. Using your computer, you can simply drag all of the photos you want to delete into the "Trash Can". If you don't have a dedicated card reader, your DSC-P73 will serve as a card reader . . .
