sony mavica mvc - cd1000

Do any of you have, or know how to get the wiring information for the flash connector on my mavica? It is a 2.5mm jack thing and i want to be able to use a flash that uses a PC connector.

Also, what is the best way to wire a remote trigger for the camera? Do i need to open the thing up and solder onto the switch or is there another way?

I sure would like to know this, too. I'd rather figure out how to remote-trigger this camera, than buy a whole new camera just to remote-damn trigger it.

I've even considered building a jig out of wood and screws that would accept a cable release and clamp onto the body of the Mavica MVC-CD1000.

I don't have to go that THAT effort, do I...?

You would think the USB port (or that flash-control port) would allow full control access to the Mavica. I mean, surely they don't calibrate and test it MANUALLY!

I found an online tutorial about strapping an airbulb to the device. Don't know how well that would work for a thousand exposures, but (shrug).

The URL is: An Air Release for the Mavica MVC-FD91

Thanks for the magazine link.

Well, jinkies. The magazine link for the air-button no longer points to anything useful.

How annoying.

By this stage of the game, I'm rather of the opinion that I'll buy a cheap-ass camera, as long as it has cable release. I'm loathe to cut into my Mavica, unless someone else can confirm that this does, in fact, actually work.

Here is the article again (archived by the Internet Archive Wayback Machine): An Air Release for the Mavica MVC-FD91

Title: Switch question
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: you'll have to modify your digital camera by wiring a 2.5mm jack to the shutter button. Chapter 1 in the "Hacking Digital Cameras" book covers that and more. You are in luck, because Wiley (the publisher) has made chapter 1 free to download; you'll find it on this web site.
