Vivitar Mini Digital Camera on Mac

Received a Vivitar mini digital camera. Can I get Mac OS compatible software?

Anyone looking for the 905C OSX10.4.zip file for Mac OS X can get it from archive.org since the site is no longer around. Go to archive.org and http://www.digital-products.info/Drivers/MAC/905C%20OSX10.4. . . . in the WAYBACKMACHINE field. Hit "Take Me Back" to get to another page. Then click on the "June 19, 2006" link to get the file.

I'm trying it out now on my MacBook Pro. I'll add a comment after I've tried it...

Okay, the 905C OSX10.4.zip didn't do much to get this working on Mac OS X. However, I was able to use the camera by installing gphoto2 on OS X and using that to download the captured images from the camera. setting up and using gphoto2 is a bit advanced for beginners, but if you are desperate to get this working on OS X, do the following:

1. install MacPorts from www.macports.org
2. after MacPorts is installed, run Terminal
3. within a Terminal window, type "sudo port install gphoto2"
4. gphoto2 and all its dependent libraries will install. This may take a while (took me a little over half an hour on my MacBook Pro).
5. after gphoto2 is finished, plug in your digital camera and type this in the Terminal window: "gphoto2 --auto-detect" If it works, your camera should be listed.
6. type "gphoto2 --list-files" to see a list of the files on the camera
7. type "gphoto2 --get-all-files" to copy all the files to the current directory in terminal
8. type "open ." to open a Finder window in the current directory and look at your newly downloaded photos!

I'm not sure yet how to delete images, but I think you can delete them using the camera's primitive interface.

Is there a GUI that can be used with the UNIX command? I am on OS 10.5.8 and don't know the first thing about using command line. BTW, my camera was branded "Bell", but it is the same as the Vivitar and other brands I've seen around.

BTW2... Installing the 905C OSX10.4.zip (which I manged to get using the waybackmachine.com)did not do anything. Any help welcome... I could not care less about the camera, but there are a couple of important things I'd like to get out of it from my mac.

Does MacPorts include gphoto2, etc?
What version MacPorts is applicable to OSX 10.5.8 ?
If gphoto2 (etc.) is not bundled with MacPorts then what version gphoto2 do I download that is applicable to OSX 10.5.8?
And is there a a site where I can download what is required without having to recompile?
