APS shooting data (shooting date, etc)

I'm wondering if you have any idea of how to read the data part of an APS film. I'd really like to extract shooting information (shooting date, time, etc) to put into JPG EXIF of scans. I have some prints that came with the shooting date on the back, but after a while some came in without it. I guess it depends on the lab when they printed the photos from the APS cartridges.

If an APS camera could write the data, maybe it could be modified to read the data?

Start familiarize yourself with the APS standards:

About the Advanced Photo System

Here is some magnetic code information:

Here is the specification for how to read and write the APS magnetic information:

System Specifications for the Advanced Photo System

This is the core starting point for the specifications:

Kodak has pretty much grandfathered the APS system information, which is why a lot of it can only be found on www.archive.org. But you'll probably want to do some digging on Kodak's web site as well.

Let us know what you've found.
