Hey, I'm wanting any advice about how to rewire a shutter to act as a switch. Basically I'd like to know where the wires from the main photo-taking button connect to the shutter, so I can intercept that current. That is all. Anyone know of anyone who would be willing to help me? The final piece is going to be really really cool. Promise. I'm working with a manual SLR from the 70s, likely a Pentax ME. Repair manual attached if anyone would need it for questions.

Now i'm curious as to why it's pre-dated my entry at 1998...?

Because the database updates the thread index every four hours and the index hasn't been updated. There is currently a problem with the server at our hosting provider that prevents updating. We are looking into resolving that issue right now.
Do you know for sure that the Asahi Pentex ME that you are modifying has the shutter button wired electrically? Because it's a mechanical shutter, it may not be wired electrically at all. It is most likely triggering a latch. The only electrical wiring may be the electrical flash hot-shoe contact, in which case has no current until you put an electronic flash on it and turn it on.
What do you really want to do with this hack? Depending on what you end goal is, it might be easier to interface to the hot shoe instead.

well, I thought the idea of the new SLRs were that they had an electronic shutter. If not, then I could wire it manually. For my Responsive Art course we have to design a switch that lights up an LED light. I want to hollow out the camera and put a light into the camera, using the camera's battery to power the light and for the light to shine out of the lens. If no current runs from the shutter button to the shutter, than i'll just have to wire it myself. I was hoping I could use the factory wiring to my advantage.

The new SLR's do most likely have an electronic shutter and their shutter button is very likely a switch. But I don't know about the Pentax ME. It looks like an old model that uses mechanic shutters rather than electrical.
