Help picking a 35mm camera

This term in college I'm going to be taking a begining photography class. I took photography 11 years ago in high school but the camera was provided for me and several years have passed, I have forgotten several things since then. (Since digital, I never thought I'd need a 35mm again)

Anyway, for my class a 35mm camera with Adjustible exposure controls is needed and I'm pretty much flat broke. When I did a search on google, I found cameras with that feature for about $500.

My question is, are there any cheap cameras with this function? If so, what brand would you recommend and about how much do they cost? Am I in over my head for a basic photography class?

Hi Sha,

A 35mm with adjustable exposure controls need not cost $500. A quick look at the "SLR camera specials" on B&H showed two cameras with lens for $200. Both provides manual exposure controls for your need:

- Minolta Maxxum 5 QD 35mm SLR Autofocus Camera with 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens
- Canon EOS Rebel K2 35mm SLR Autofocus Camera Kit with Canon 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 EF II Lens

For your purpose, an used camera may be all you need. KEH has several Canon Rebel bodies for less than $100. And quite a few lenses for ~$50 . . .

Hope that helps.
