obama

copyrights...if i take obama's picture from the white house website and use it on mine - blogging and I'm making money with ads, would that be okay?

no. You don't need a model release from Obama. But that's not your photo. Unless the owner makes it free use or public domain. You don't own the photo rights. You would need to take your own photo.

You need to do foot work to determine whether that photo belongs to the US government or someone else. If it belongs to the US government, then it's probably public domain. However, if it belongs to someone else, then it's likely that the US government is using it under license.

Then, because it's a photo of someone, you have to determine how you are going to use that photo. Are you going to use it in an editorial or in an ad? Are you going to use it to endorse a product? For some things it's ok, for others it's not without a model release.

It's quite complicated.
